What is it?

Levels of connection within Biodanza Heart in Motion

Within the practise of Biodanza we practise connections on three levels.

First level

of connection is my connection with myself. Here we engage in many exercises designed to stimulate and strengthen our connection with ourselves. With our core. So we get clear about who we are as an individual. We examine and define our own boundaries and begin going deeper into ourselves. Those exercises are performed solo and sometimes with our eyes closed, so we can practise in solitude and be able to focus on our inner world.

Second level

of connection is with one other. Exercises here are designed to stimulate and teach us about complexities of including one other in our world. We begin working with reciprocity or feedback and we begin connecting and merging with one other. Our aim is to synchronize our heart beats as one, so we may begin letting each other in deeper and deeper into our soul and body. Here we begin learning about the language of the body. We learn how to be around one other and maintain our sense of identity. We learn how to be stable and soft in presence of another.

Reciprocity or feedback is conscious and responsible communication with others through eye contact, facial expression and body language. To be in feedback with others is to be responsive to them, to modify our behaviour and expression due to their input. To include other people’s expressions in our own. When we are in feedback, we occur to others as a friend that cares.

Third level

of connection is with the group, or the world. Here we practise merging with the whole. We begin to include in our world all the others. Practise on this level expands our sense of identity and allows us to work with our boundaries on a deeper level. On this level we deepen our awareness of our true self in relation to our team, our group. And we learn how to cooperate with life.
